Simpler Recycling – your questions answered

From April 2026, we will start collecting food waste every week as part of the government’s Simpler Recycling plans.

Simpler Recycling is already in place in many districts across the country, and it’s proving highly successful. Residents are recycling more, throwing away less, and seeing fewer problems with smells – thanks to weekly food waste collections.

At the same time, general waste collections will move to every two weeks in Arun to help standardise services and reduce waste. Biffa has been busy delivering free 180 litre black wheeled bins to residents.

Thanks to everyone who has asked for their old 240 litre black bin to be picked up for recycling – Biffa is working hard to collect these.

If you live in a flat or communal property, we will be in touch about your arrangements.

Changes are coming to the Council Tax Reduction Scheme

After public consultation last year, we have made some changes to our local Council Tax Reduction Scheme for working age claimants. These changes are intended to help those most in need.

The changes which take effect from 1 April 2026 are designed to benefit groups which include those receiving armed forces pensions and compensation payments, and carers.

New community safety grant fund launched to support local projects across Arun

The Safer Arun Partnership has launched a new Community Safety Grant Fund, offering grants of up to £2,500 to local groups and organisations working to make the district safer for everyone.

The fund is designed to support community-led projects that improve feelings of safety, deter antisocial behaviour, reduce crime, and help protect vulnerable people from harm. Applications are welcomed from voluntary and community groups, charities, residents’ associations, youth organisations, and any other bodies delivering activities within the Arun district.
