Season’s Greetings
Is it that time already! At the time of writing, plans are underway for the annual lit Christmas tree at Rose Green for residents’ enjoyment. We wish everyone a very happy Christmas and New Year.
Shop Local
Aldwick is lucky in having several great retail areas, at Aldwick Road/Nyewood Lane, Aldwick Street, Coastguards Parade, West Meads and Rose Green. We have a wide range of shops and services with plenty of choice of hairdressers, cafes, take away food, butchers, groceries, farm goods & refills, funeral directors, estate agents, sportswear, pharmacies, wellbeing/beauty therapies, keep fit, car repairs, post office/stationery, arts, crafts & hobbies, hardware, convenience stores, garage/fuel, launderette, flooring, off licence, glazing, property services, computer and IT services plus many other home businesses and services. Many are in walking distance or near bus routes, and the main retail spots all have free parking close by. Do support local shops and businesses if you can – it’s convenient, personal shopping and helps the local economy, so win-win!
Meet your Council
Just a reminder that in the New Year we’re holding monthly drop-ins for residents on the last Friday of every month, in the Parish Council meeting room, 10am-12noon. Council Chairman Guy Purser will be here on Friday 30th January 2026. Don’t forget too that you can come along to observe council meetings, see below for next meeting dates.
Remembrance Day
We observed two minutes’ silence on Tuesday 11th November 2025, with a simple wreath laying ceremony at the Millennium Garden Memorial, and were joined by a large crowd of residents, veterans and service representatives. It’s always humbling to hear the Last Post played as we remember the fallen. It was a pleasure to be joined by staff and pupils of Rose Green Junior School again, whose Team Captains were great ambassadors for the school. Around 50 people joined us after the ceremony for a chat over a hot drink and home-made cake. We will be laying a wreath in remembrance of Lt Prior at the Dark Lane plaque commemorating him, on 22nd December, the anniversary of his death.
RC Sherriff Blue Plaque
Many of you will recall the blue plaque on the wall of Sandmartins commemorating the author, who lived there for a time in the 1930s. The experience inspired his critically acclaimed novel A Fortnight in September, based in Aldwick and Bognor Regis. Sandmartins is in the process of being demolished for new development and we’ve been trying to ensure that the plaque isn’t lost, as an interesting part of local history. Currently, it’s with the RC Sherriff Trust in Surrey, and we’re in talks with the Trust to see if it might return to Aldwick.
Council Meetings: Please check our website for details in case of changes. Public are welcome to attend, and there’s a short adjournment for public questions on agenda items.
