West Sussex councils submit business case for local government reorganisation

The West Sussex councils, including Arun District Council, have submitted a joint business case and individual preference letters to central government, proposing their preferred models for local government reorganisation in the county. The proposals respond to the government’s ambition to develop alternative options to the current two-tier system.

Arun district councillors, voted to support the recommendation to submit a preference for Option B2 – a two unitary model:

·       unitary 1 – Adur, Arun, Chichester, and Worthing

·       unitary 2 – Crawley, Horsham, and Mid Sussex

This option has been supported by all seven of the district and borough councils in West Sussex and this unified position sends a clear message regarding our ambition for local government reorganisation in our county.

New lighting wraps brighten Littlehampton seafront as evenings draw in

As we cross into autumn and the evenings start to arrive earlier, Littlehampton’s seafront is getting a fresh new look.

Decorative lighting wraps have been installed on 17 lampposts along the promenade, from the pier to Norfolk Road, creating a more welcoming and attractive atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

The project is funded through Arun District Council’s allocation from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund and is part of a wider programme to improve public spaces and support the town’s evening economy.

Major Upgrade to 3G Pitch at Arun Leisure Centre

Arun District Council and Freedom Leisure are pleased to announce a significant upgrade to the popular 3G pitch at Arun Leisure Centre in Felpham, Bognor Regis.

This investment forms part of a wider capital improvement programme under the newly extended leisure operating contract, which will run until March 2032.

The upgraded 3G pitch will feature a new playing surface and sub-base, enhancing the quality and durability of the facility for both casual users and league players.

Arun District Council responds to Royal British Legion campaign with new support for veterans

Arun District Council has taken a significant step in supporting its Armed Forces community by unanimously passing two policy changes at a recent Housing and Wellbeing Committee meeting.

These policy changes form the council’s official response to the Royal British Legion’s (RBL) national campaign, ‘Credit Their Service.’

Under the new measures, Arun District Council will use its discretionary powers to disregard Military Compensation when veterans apply for both Housing Benefit and Disabled Facilities Grants. Previously, veterans were required to include compensation payments as income when applying for these benefits.
